Good Vibes Friday: A Rising Sun Mural

Last year, I asked my landlord if I could paint my apartment.  He replied, “Sure, just nothing too dark.”  As a former English professor, I assumed he meant this metaphorically.  Sharing pictures of the mural my two godchildren and I painted.  It’s imperative as an artist to have good resources and good people to turn to while nurturing creative ideas into realized realities. For this reason, I’d like to acknowledge some of the wonderful staff at Dick Blick who helped me plot, plan and visualize this life-giving creation.  Thank you Jessica W., Marco Hill (a Philadelphia based photographer), and Autumn Wallace for your time, expertise and inspirational selves.  And wishing you all a wonderful, sour milk free weekend! Good Vibes Friday

In 7th grade we had to pick, memorize and recite a famous speech. I can’t remember the name of the speech I chose but it was the same one my oldest sister did. She went on to win nationals. I never made it pass the first round. The above poem was featured at the end of the speech and has lived with me ever since. Like a good friend, it just resurfaced and inspired a performance piece that I wrote as a final for my class. It’s powerful how snippets of conversation, or life experiences or pieces of poetry can come back to me years later and offer new perspectives. I suppose this is a friendly Friday reminder to absorb the moments as they unfold around you, store the things that matter or seem to matter and allow the mind to wonder because you never know where it might be leading you.
